The Club The Richmond Tennis Club is situated at the west side of Minoru Park @ Gilbert and Granville. The club has been in existence for over 50 years and in its current location for over 30 years. Richmond Tennis Club is a non-profit organization functioning year round in co-operation with the City of Richmond. The club's goal is to provide an inexpensive place to play tennis year round for its members and the public (all ages and ability levels). The club's outdoor season lasts from January 1 to December 31 and the indoor season is from October 1 to March 31. Courts are made available to the public during the indoor season for a fee. There are no court fees for members. The Richmond Tennis Club has over 350 members.
Facility Richmond Tennis Club has five hard courts which are lighted for evening play during the outdoor season (April 1-Sept.30). During the winter season (Oct.1-Mar.31) three courts are covered by a bubble for indoor play and two remain for outdoor play. The Richmond Tennis Club completed construction of a new clubhouse in 2001. The clubhouse provides changing rooms with lockers and showers, lounge, kitchen facilities (no food service or bar) and is wheelchair accessible.
Programs Head Pro and assistants offer instructional programs for adults and children full time April 1 to Sept.30, part time Oct.1 to Mar.31. The club offers many tennis social events throughout the year including mixed socials Wednesday afternoons, Friday mornings and evenings and Sunday afternoons. The club sponsors both men's and women's league teams, is host to the Richmond Open tournament (adults in May and juniors in July) and runs club tournaments at the end of both the winter and summer seasons. Junior members enjoy group lesson programs in April and May followed by supervised play periods three times a week in July and August. There is league play for junior members as well as barbecue parties and a junior club tournament in August. For an additional fee junior members have full access to the indoor courts during the winter season.
